“It is Sheer Nonsense to Call This Atonal”: Hugo Leichtentritt’s Recompositions of Schoenberg’s Op. 11 and Op. 19 Klavierstücke
Music Theory Midwest, like all other spring conferences, was forced to cancel its 2020 meeting in Madison. The sessions are being held online in a seminar-style format: papers are pre-circulated, and each panel will be a live discussion online, held throughout late June and July. (My session is scheduled for June 30; more information can be found here).
I am posting the video of my talk and a ‘traditional’ handout, as well as my typescript with examples (and footnotes). I feel that this talk came especially down to the wire, lengthwise; it was difficult to say half the things I wanted to say on the topic in only 20 minutes (OK, 22 minutes…), so I definitely encourage those who are interested to read the typescript rather than watch the video; or at least to skim the footnotes as they follow along.
